Types of German

If there are that many countries where they speak German, does that mean that there are many types of German? Jein (a mix of Ja and Nein). You can use standard German for everyone. Sure, there are a lot of dialects and someone from Austria sounds very different from someone from the north of Germany. But when they write, they use the same German.

For Switzerland, there are some minor considerations. For instance, they don’t use the double s (ß). The rules for quotation marks are also different. In Switzerland, they use guillemets, just like in France (« »).
